Laguna Hediona is a salt lake well-known for its main inhabitants, the migratory species of pink and white flamingos. Laguna Hediona has a saline content percentage of 66-80% and the average depth of the lake is just below one foot. The Spanish name ‘Laguna Hediona’ literally translates as ‘Stinking Lake.’ This name was awarded as a result of the slight stench from the high sulfur content.
